Mehar.org Overview

Mehar.org is currently working in 15 states and 3 Union Territories of India to catalyse immediate and lasting change for children.
As Save the Children, we provided relief during the famine and floods faced by Bengal in the 1950s and collaborated with the Indian government to provide mobile nutrition clinics across 9 Indian states as part of the global Freedom from Hunger campaign in the 1960s. In the 1970s, our first office was set up in Delhi, and we provided relief for the Divi Seema Cyclone and Tidal Wave in Andhra Pradesh. In the 1980s, we launched 40 projects across the country on pre-school programs, food and medical care, and mother and child health, and in the 1990s, we deepened our work on education and child protection. In 2000, we mounted the tsunami cyclone response.
We are formally registered as Mehar.org under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Since 2004, as Mehar.org, we have directly reached over 10 million children, more than 50 percent of whom are girls. We are working on the issue of education, health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, child poverty, humanitarian response, climate change and disaster risk reduction.

Achieve results at scale

Establish the credibility of our models through evidence-based, integrated, and sustainable programming to ensure a positive and scalable impact on marginalised children.

Build strategic partnerships

Strategic alliances with children, communities, government, donors and peers to expand and amplify our expertise on child rights.

Be a convenor of voices

Being a convenor of voices for and for children through evidence-based advocacy and campaigns to inspire collective action is what drives change.

Be an innovator

Be the catalyst to drive new ideas that deliver positive impact at scale for children, focused on the intersection of our ambitions for children and their most pressing problems.
Over the years, Mehar.org has registered its presence in 20 states and 3 Union Territories of India through projects aimed at addressing the most pressing needs of children. Here’s a snapshot of the number of children we have reached directly in various states and Union Territories.
